Announcement of Job Opening English Teaching Position

Miyazaki Municipal University invites applications for one English teaching position.

 

1. Research Field: Second Language Acquisition; Applied Linguistics; TESOL

 

2. Responsibilities and Salary:

 (1) Assigned Coursework (a total of 7 or 8 90-minute classes per week, per semester)

teaching English I Reading, English I Writing, English II Reading, English II Writing, English III Reading, English III Writing

 

English I, II, and III are required courses and consist of two modules:

Reading and Writing. Each module meets once a week for 90-minutes. One instructor teaches both modules to groups of 25-30 students.

English I and III are offered in the Spring Term and English II is offered in the Fall. For more details on these courses, please see the contact information below.

 

(2)Other duties may include:

a. developing course materials

b. providing student support during office hours

c. creating/managing course online resources (Moodle/Xreading.com/EnglishCentral.com/Quizlet)

d. carrying out duties related to university administration

 

  (3)Salary:

 Approximately \326,000 per month

*Bonus and severance pay are not included.

 

3. Position: Lecturer (part-time)

 

4. Number of position: 1

 

5. Term of employment:

One year (from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018). Renewal for 4 additional years following annual review for a possible total maximum term of employment of 5 years (non-tenure track)

 

6. Qualifications:

(1)English native speaker, or an equivalent level of English ability

(2) High level of Japanese ability, sufficient to carry out duties in Japanese

 (3) Experience in teaching English language classes or teaching classes in English, at the university level

 

7. Starting date: April 1, 2017

 

8. Application deadline: January 6, 2017(The application must reach us by 5:00 P.M. Japan Time)

 

9. Selection process:

Upon completion of the initial screening procedures, successful candidates will be interviewed in both English and Japanese and will be asked to give

a demonstration lesson.

*Travel expenses for such interviews must be paid by the applicants.

 

10. Date of notification:

The successful applicant will be notified by the beginning of February, 2017.

 (1) copy of curriculum vitae (please use the attached sheet: Format1 and 2)

  ・略歴書(様式1)(word形式:24KB)/ Format 1

  ・履歴書 (様式2)(word形式:27KB)/ Format 2

 (2) three major research publications

 (3) complete list of research publications presentations, including Master’s thesis and Ph.D. dissertation

 (4) copy of highest degree earned, or other proof of highest educational attainment (documents in language other than English and Japanese should be accompanied by a Japanese translation.)

 (5) list containing the names, phone numbers and e-mail address of two professional references

 (6) for non-Japanese applicants: proof of Japanese language proficiency (such as a research publication in Japanese or results of a Japanese language proficiency test), only if available

 (7) one stamped self-addressed return envelope (or self-addressed  Envelope and International Reply coupon, if applying from outside Japan)
